Join experienced educators from around the world for an interactive, cross-disciplinary workshop on global warming, its effects on the Arctic and Antarctic, and scientific and cultural programs associated with the International Polar Year.
Explorer Will Steger will present findings of global warming from his Arctic and Antarctic expeditions and will invite educators to join his 2008 Global Warming 101 expeditions.
Attendees will receive a toolkit of resources, which will also be available free for download from www.globalwarming101.com and www.ipy.org following the Summer Institute.
The workshop will include:
- Speakers on education
- Instructional technology
- Scientific and cultural research underway in the Polar regions
- Ecological and cultural impacts of global warming
Apply by completing the questionnaire and application at www.globalwarming101.com. Note that the deadline has been extended through June 20. The Institute is aimed primarily at K6–12 teachers in all content areas, although elementary educators are also encouraged to apply. Space is limited to 200 participants.
The Institute will take place at the Science Museum of Minnesota in St. Paul on August 13–15. The fee is very affordable at $50.00 for the entire conference.
