School Building Week April 28–May 2, 2008
National Healthy Schools Day, April 28
Join the NEA Health Information Network (NEA HIN) in promoting safe, healthy, sustainable environments by participating in School Building Week (April 28–May 2) and National Healthy Schools Day (April 28).
School Building Week is an annual program supported by the CEFPI Foundation and Charitable Trust, the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and numerous other organizations. The purpose of the program is to raise awareness of high performance, healthy, safe, and sustainable school facilities and their connection to learning.
School Building Week features the School of the Future Student Design Competition, a national Walking School Bus, a historical look at our nation's schools, a focus on schools as the centers of community, and National Healthy Schools Day—April 28.
Sponsored by the Healthy Schools Network, Inc., National Healthy Schools Day aims to promote healthy school environments for every student and staff person. Nationwide events take place that educate the community, parents, and school decisionmakers on this important issue. Events that members can sponsor include:
- conducting workshops or meetings for fellow school staff or parents
- advocating for school IAQ policies
- celebrating with city mayors or councils by signing an IAQ proclamation.
NEA HIN encourages members to get involved and plan activities. Plan your own event for National Healthy Schools Day and get involved with other aspects of School Building Week by visiting www.healthyschools.org or http://sbw.cefpifoundation.org.
