Urge Congress: Help Fund Schools Near Federal Forest Lands

The Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act, created in 2000, has made a real difference for schools in rural, timber-dependent counties, by ensuring them a consistent funding stream. NEA supports legislation (S. 380/H.R. 17) introduced by Senators Wyden (D-OR) and Smith (R-OR) and Representatives DeFazio (D-OR) and Walden (R-OR) to reauthorize this critical program.

Unless the program is reauthorized and funded, many impacted counties will have to begin laying off school staff or cutting programs.

 NEA supports this proposal.

Tell your U.S. Senators and Representative: Help rural schools -- reauthorize the Forest County and Schools Program.
