Each year the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) honors annually the outstanding performance of social studies teachers. NCSS encourages unique and innovative social studies education projects through its award and grant programs.
Awards are given in three categories: elementary (grades K-6), middle (grades 5-8), and secondary (grades 7-12). The awards are co-sponsored by NCSS, Scholastic Inc, and McDougal Littell respectively.
Winners receive $2,500, a commemorative gift, annual conference session presentation, complimentary one-year NCSS membership, and publicity. Self-nominations are accepted but nominees cannot be nominated for the award in more than one category. All nominees must be NCSS members.
Applications must be postmarked by June 9, 2008.
For more information about the award, see the NCSS Web site, www.socialstudies.org/awards/teaching/
