Samsung 2008 Hope for Education Program
Technology Tools to Help Students Realize Potential
Samsung, Microsoft, and DIRECTV are giving away more than $2 million in technology products, software, cash grants, and educational programming packages to 31 K–12 schools across the U.S. that lack funding to purchase the kind of technology necessary to keep their students competitive with the rest of the world.
The program challenges students, teachers, parents, or anyone who knows of a school in need to write a 100-word essay about the importance of technology in education, and how it can benefit a school in their community. Essays are evaluated by an independent judging committee, and winners earn various awards of Samsung products for their designated school.
This year's essay question is: "How has technology educated you on helping the environment and how or why has it changed your behavior to be more environmentally friendly?" Essays should focus on:
- How current or emerging technologies increase your awareness and understanding of environmental issues, and cause you to make environmentally friendly changes in your life
- How technology products can be made, used, and disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner
- Why technology will play an increasingly important role in educating people and helping them to change their lives in an environmentally responsible way
All entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. ET on August 31, 2008. Essays will be accepted in English or Spanish only. Visit http://pages.samsung.com/us/hopeforeducation/index.html for more information and a complete description of eligibility and prizes.
