Recent events in the economy and politics make your involvement even more critical. One year ago, we were discussing how to use the federal budget surplus. Could it be used to shore up Social Security? To provide a prescription drug benefit to Medicare recipients? To strengthen education and our public schools? Those initiatives are now on the back burner, and the federal government has tapped into the Social Security Trust Fund to the tune of $2 trillion. As policymakers make decisions that affect us all, it will be critical that they hear from you.
